Manual Handling

More employees take time of work through back pain than any other single cause. Inappropriate lifting, handling and carrying techniques are responsible for 10% of all back injuries.

This half day course is specifically designed for staff that may be involved in manual handling activities within the work place and introduces them to the hazards and risks involved in manual handling.

Subjects covered within the course include:

Theoretical:

  • Health and Safety at Work 1974
  • Manual handling regulations 1999
  • Duty of care
  • Understanding the need for accident prevention and control
  • Moving and handling assessments
  • Basic principles of safer handling
  • Company handling policy
  • Anatomy - Basic facts and body mechanics
  • Unsafe lifting techniques

Practical:

  • Methods of lifting
  • Moving and transferring
  • Working with equipment

On completion of the course candidates will have an understanding of The Manual Handling Regulations, the causes and preventative measures of back pain and other musculoskeletal injuries and the principles of good body movement and manual handling techniques applicable to their workplace requirements.

Candidates will receive a certificate of attendance and a course information folder.

Training can be conducted in-house or at a regional training centre and can be tailored to meet the individual needs of your company.
